Choices
There are so many choices
it can be overwhelming at times. Just keep in
mind that nothing is ever 100%. So don't be afraid
to experiment. Trying out new things is part of
the fun. When you find something that works
for you and your client it's a great feeling.
Preparation
Always the burning
question. Did the client shower and exfoliate.
If the application doesn't turn out right is it
something I did, is it something the client did
or is it simply because it's the third Friday
of the month and the moon isn't in the right position.
What I've learned is that everyone is different
and what works for one person might not work for
another. The following are some of the steps I take to ensure that I've done my best.
Getting Ready
I have our clients
use Sluff
Wipes (really just for the convenience). Some
alternatives are a lemon/water mix (2oz. lemon
juice concentrate/14oz. water) or Pretan
Prep Sprays that can be sprayed on and buffed
off with a towel. In my experience all pretty
much work the same. I also keep on hand: nose
filters, eye goggles and lip balm.
Hands
and Feet
These can be a little
tricky at first. TIP: Less is more. Pull the spray applicator about 12 inches away and lightly mist in a "C" pattern or half moon shape.
Here is my method: Before spraying I have
the client apply Jojoba Oil to their hands and
feet and lightly buff with a towel. Next apply some
barrier cream to finger and toe nails. After spraying the client use a baby wipe to clean finger nails, toe nails, palms of hands and bottom of the feet.
Alternatives:
I
have found some of these alternatives listed on the messages boards:
Have client wear little feet socks and then remove
and spray last. Some use disposable paper slippers or even
adhere contact paper to the bottom of the feet.
See...there are a lot of alternatives. You'll
find one that works for you.
Dry Skin
If clients have
really dry skin I have them apply a tan extender
2 hours prior to their application.
Alternatives: A light moisturizer or jojoba oil can be applied to
dry areas (hands, feet, elbows etc).
After
Care
Moisturize...Moisturize...Moisturize. Starting about the third day alternate with
a tan extender (there are a lot of good ones out
there).
